AP9 24 Protect Plus, IK9 24 Protect Plus Offers Internet Safety Guidelines to Protect Your Child

AP9 24 Protect Plus, IK9 24 Protect Plus, an Adaptive Marketing LLC premier security program, announces an important list of safety guidelines for parents whose children use the Internet.

Once the domain of the techno-savvy, the vast resources of the Internet are now available to the mainstream public, including children. In fact, points out AP9 24ProtectPlus, IK9 24 Protect Plus, children are more likely than adults to be online at any one time, due to the popularity of e-mail, instant messaging, chat rooms and blogs.

Unfortunately, the more time children spend on the Internet, the more vulnerable they are to fraud, bullying and inappropriate material. Even more troubling, notes AP9 24 Protect Plus, IK9 24 Protect Plus, is the growing use of the Internet by sex offenders to locate and abduct children. And, according to law enforcement sources, the rise of Internet-ready laptops, cell phones and video games is making it even harder for parents to monitor their children's Internet activity.

AP9 24 Protect Plus, IK9 24 Protect Plus provides guidelines to create a safer online experience for children:

1. Talk to your child about the potential dangers of the Internet. Explain that the same rules that apply to the "real world" also apply to the Internet: don’t talk to strangers, don’t agree to go anywhere with strangers, and don’t accept gifts from strangers. Basic rule of thumb – don’t communicate with anyone you don’t already know “in real life.”

2. Utilize the parental controls software that come with your Internet service. This will help you block spam and establish a list of people with whom it is safe for your child to exchange instant messages and e-mail.

3. Keep the computer in a common room in the house -- not in your child's bedroom -- and always monitor instant message and chat room activity. Do not allow your child to exchange picture files with anyone he or she does not know.

4. Always maintain access to your child's online account, and randomly check his or her e-mail. Also, check your phone bills, caller ID logs and regular mail, as online predators frequently use offline methods to communicate with potential victims.

5. Instruct your child not to reveal any personal information through the computer, such as passwords, home addresses, school names, telephone numbers, birthdays or surnames. All of these could help an online predator abduct a child. (The same information can also help identity thieves steal your family's personal and financial information.)

6. Find out what computer safeguards are used in your child's school, library and the homes of your child's friends. These are all places outside your normal supervision where your child could encounter an online predator.

AP9 24ProtectPlus, IK9 24 Protect Plus reminds parents that pre-teens and teens are just as vulnerable to cyber predators. When establishing ground rules for your teen, be sensitive to their need for some sense of autonomy, but remain firm that your family’s online safety rules are not intended to be intrusive -- they are intended to keep your children safe.
